Surfaces of Transmutation is a series by Serdar Akdeniz that examines the moment when an image is no longer sustained by structure, but altered through reaction. The works do not construct form, but expose it to conditions that transform it.
Each piece begins with a precise drawing-based framework that is not preserved, but subjected to processes of oxidation, corrosion, and material interference. Surface becomes a site of instability, where transformation emerges through interaction.
In this series, the surface does not receive time passively — it responds. Metal registers change visibly, not as applied effect, but as the result of material conditions.
The figure appears not as a stable subject, but as a residue. What remains is not representation, but the trace of transformation.
